The way I understand GOP, the driver is provided by or for the bootloader when the
bootloader is installed, and doesn't care about GPU firmware.

UEFI firmware is in a motherboard chip, not part of any gfxcard. I've had no
problem using older gfxcards than yours in UEFI PC tests, but since the iGPU was
newer in every case, there was no reason to burn extra electrons keeping an
unneeded gfxcard installed.
