How to use OpenBox WM from Debian LXDE installation without LXDE?
Dear leaders and senior members of OpenBox mailing list,
I used Debian GNU/Linux Live 11.6.0 lxde 2022-12-17T11:46]/ bullseye
ISO to install Debian. I also use Knoppix 8.6.1.
With this Debian iso LXDE is installed.
My questions are: could xsession be run without a DE, in my case,
LXDE? Without my installing any other DE?
Can the xsession be run without a DE? If it can be, how? Is OpenBox
such an implementation of WM?
I read the webpage
http://openbox.org/wiki/Help:Getting_started#Using_Openbox_without_a_desktop_environment_.28The_lightweight_approach.29
I quote from the said webpage:
"...
a third "Openbox" option ... Session Type menu when logging in
graphically, ... This option will run a more lightweight Openbox
session without any desktop environment or session manager.
..."
and
"...
Most likely if you are not using a graphical log in, then you are
using startx to begin an X session. In that case you need to run
Openbox from your ~/.xinitrc file. Rather than just running openbox
however, you should choose from one of the three programs listed
below:
openbox-session
..."
So how could I configure my Debian installed system so that I could
use openbox without LXDE DM? How to configure autostart and other set
up?
There are some comments which indicate that I would need to install
init packages. Which init packages should I install? Will the
initscripts package be required?
I have checked the list of Debian ISOs. All are with DE.
Your competent advice would be welcome.
Best wishes,
