Hi, D.R.,
If I understand your question correctly, try this:
Click on the pane that shows the message contents, to select it.
Then Ctrl + and Ctrl - let's you resize the contents of the pane,
bigger or smaller, respectively.
Works on my Thunderbird, 102.10.0.
