I've been doing that for more than 20 years, but aside from the
affront of having even an LPI-specific address used for a wide range
of marketing, if I was to continue a relationship with LPI I would
still need to read that address, so it couldn't just be burned.

Giving out tagged addresses is really useful for knowing who has
leaked. Given the lack of assistance I experienced back then with
LPI it's possible that had I used a generic email address they
would have denied being the source. But once it had been identified
there wasn't much to be done other than decide whether to stop
interacting with LPI.

As I say it's been a long time so I would hope their practices are
better now. A lot of that would be illegal under GDPR (which both
the part of LPI that was at FOSDEM, and LPI UK, would be operating
under today).

Cheers,
Andy
