I've never seen a BIOS where this is hard--you just browse to the appropriate file in the EFI partition (EFI/debian/grubx64.efi). Using a program from within linux is helpful for the installer, which is trying to automate the process, but I wouldn't bother for manually reconfiguring a drive.
