Maybe:
1. Move or delete ~/.config/gedit
2. Reset Gedit dconf settings:
- all settings with dconf command line: `dconf reset -f /org/gnome/gedit/`
- or with dconf-editor GUI (from package with the same name). Right
click on a folder allows to reset all sub-keys

Now I just have to wait patiently for bug #953676 to be fixed (if ever . . . ).
It seems to have been introduced by an update to gedit 3.36.0-3, which I did on 2020-03-09.
