Instead, try querying the partition itself:
root@hawk:~# dumpe2fs -h /dev/sda1 | grep UUID
dumpe2fs 1.44.5 (15-Dec-2018)
Filesystem UUID: 85936b4c-4088-4365-9c39-6a7cd8a0256c
root@hawk:~#
