  doesn't sound like it to me from what i remember from
the last netinst i did.

  that doesn't matter though.  you have a working shell 
prompt at that point you can su - to root and run your
favorite apt/apt-get utilities to get whatever else you'd
like.

  if you want to get tasksel (task selection) and then 
go from there.

  perhaps you need specific hardware drivers for your
setup.  these are not included by default.

  i would tick the box for the utilties as most of them
are useful for a longer time linux/unix type person and
if you find out later you don't want them you can always
remove them.

  and yes, on the icewm, i've not ever used it.  not sure
if it will bring in a session manager for you or not.

  almost all of your questions so far would be covered by
the installation instructions.
