There are *many* successors. Re-read Michael's mail, he even offers
three names.
Most "interesting" things out there are clustered, these days. Google
wouldn't exist without.
The problem will be for you -- what tasks are you thinking about? I.e.
what are the "things" you mention above you want to "speed up"?
You could do worse than reading Wikipedia's entry for computer
clusters [1].
