This all looks OK and should (famous last words) work.
You might want to run apt-get with some debugging options enabled. For
example, this might be more verbose:
sudo apt-get -o Debug::pkgAcquire=1 update
(Note: Lots of output. Redirecting to a file might be a good idea).
For a couple of debug options you might want to consider, cf. man
apt.conf.
