It depends on grub-legacy, that's for sure.

In a way, it does. Grub-legacy is x86 only. Grub2 can be used on
non-x86, but on those platforms it's customary to use another
bootloaders (yaboot for example). So, it's assumed that one uses grub2 =
one uses x86.
