True, that was my fault entirely. I thought that if someone in Debian
had experienced that message from apt-get might have done as I did and
had to reinstall their system because, like me they destroyed it? Or so
I thought, I did. Fortunately my browsers still worked, somewhat.

So it was a very general question.

Obviously no one had received that message and didn't have to deal with
it previously.

Had they had that problem and overcome it themselves, they would have
of course written something like: "no it can be fixed". And if known,
included a URL to where the solution might be documented, a wiki page or
something.

Ralf was kind enough to take it to a higher level. Which was very much
appreciated. He like many others on this list, not only those who have
helped me personally, impresses me with his knowledge. Consequently I
was humbled and grateful when he decided to assist me with the problem
I was experiencing.

So you are quite correct, I should have supplied greater detail had I
wanted a possible solution in a reply or series of replies. But at the
spur of the moment when I thought most were asleep, just required a
general idea before I hunted further.

Thank you for pointing it out. In the future I will try harder to do
better.

Be well,
Charlie
