The easiest/surest way to answer this question is to grab the livecd
image on debian website and try to boot it. If you boot it and use it
for a while you will see for yourself if it's working or not. Then you
can safely install (don't forget to backup!) to disk.

Either way, report back with the results. Don't rush after other people
preferences for some other distros. Burning cd or usb flash drive is
cheap.
