Quasi the only point of my reply, so I should have send just this note.
Most dual Windows/Linux booters who used Windows for years never ever
seriously will switch to Linux. I suspect that many users have trouble
with Windows. When they switch to Linux they expect to get rid of the
trouble, but they will experience more, since the thing between monitor
and chair is the culprit and not the OS, so they likely will boot
Windows only.
The problems most users experience aren't related to the OS or the apps.
Humans learn to go to the toilette, lace up one's shoes, "configure" the
microwave, but expect to magically handle a multi-tool like a computer,
without even having an abstract idea about the layers of this
multi-tool. What those users really want is a package of several
stand-alone-tools, in one tool, that's another kind of multi-tool and
Windows is closer to this approach, just thin of Linux dependencies.
AFAIK Marc S. and Lennart P. are working on wrecking Linux this way.
