brian@brian:~$ apt-cache policy libgtkglext1
libgtkglext1:
   Installed: 1.2.0-3
   Candidate: 1.2.0-3
   Version table:
  *** 1.2.0-3 0
         100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

So, this one is already installed, but it has not come from a known
repository.

It's in sid:

$ rmadison libgtkglext1
  libgtkglext1 | 1.2.0-3   | sid     | ...

Thanks.
So Brian has had sid in his sources.list, now some problems are crawling
out from under the rug because of it.

Hopefully, there aren't too many. :)

After giving it some thought, and looking in /etc , I now remember that it was suggested to me that I try using the unstable repositories because of a problem with building FPC and Lazarus from the svn versions. When it didn't work, I switched back to testing last April (I just checked the datestamps on the files). Has the update really not made its way into testing in nine months?

Anyway, I'll try your other suggestion.

Thanks for the assistance.

Brian.
