tool to show menu, DE agnostics

Hello.

I am used to dmenu and my tiling window manager (i3), but I would like 
to know if there is a tool which is able to use .desktop files commonly 
used by x11 softwares to appear in menus?

dmenu is ok for tools you use often, but certain softwares are easy to 
forget (like small games :) ) or just does not have an executable with 
same name as the package, and so are annoying to find/guess.

So, I would like a tool without big dependencies to read at .desktop 
files, and show an interactive window showing programs. I do not mind if 
it is using x11 or ncurses.

Do someone knows about such a software?
