I've not come across that.  I have only seen and used single "sheets".  But 
there are many things in existence of which I have no knowledge, so ...

The pile of paper used to be thick enough with only one sheet per page.  2 
sheets per page would have been ginormous.  And would have taken some 
disentangling.  The sheets were fan folded when they came out of the 
computer.
