My similar problem was solved by enabling the non-free repository and
installing the "firmware-linux-nonfree". I think your graphic chip needs
this same firmware to function.

Is there a "howto" which describes a process of installing something into a system, which is installed already? I know how to modify a sources.list but that's it.
