Hm I think you should be fine with the Debian kernel. There was also a
way to turn the second graphics card off --- that might not happen by
default and turning it off can increase the possible run time on battery
quite a bit. It's also nice because it can keep the temperatures down
so that the fan doesn't need to run so much. There are a lot of other
things that can be done for saving power; turning off the graphics card
is one of the simpler ones ...
