Splix is a driver, so you will not find it in any menu. Instead you
should try to add the printer via CUPS and when you get to the driver
selection experiment with anything that looks similar to your printer.
I have a Samsung printer. I can confirm that I see no sign of splix itself,
but drivers for Samsungs are suddenly present in CUPS where they weren't
before. The same, of course, applies to hplip and hpijs.

I found two distinct problems, when I tried using the URL in one of the
screenshots from the splix web site; the URL apparently being for CUPS.
The first, relates to <Administration> -> "Find New Printers". Selecting
this button, leads to

Available Printers
No printers found.
"
The second, is from http://localhost:631/ -> Home -> "CUPS For
Administrators" option Find Printer Drivers, the web page at
http://www.cups.org/ppd.php?L+I680+T+Q has

Also, in switching on the printer, I get dialogue box "New printer found
Samsung CLX-3180 series" I select "Search", which opens up two dialogue
boxes, and the one "New Printer", in choosing "Select printer from
database" and "Samsung", gives Samsung CLX-3175, which is a different
model, which is what my wife is using, and has a different printer
driver (and different cartridges) to the CLX-3185FW.
If, instead of selecting "Select printer from database, I select "Search
for a printer driver to download", which defaults to having in the "make
and model" text box, "Samsung CLX-3180 Series", no results are returned
(it does not state anything like "no results found" - it just goes from
the <Search> button being grey, when clicked, to returning to black).
So this shows that the foomatic system does not cater for the particular
model.
