This IS possible in pcmanfm (another file manager).
Likely there is a way in Thunar, as well.
I just don't know because I don't use thunar or xfce frequently
(prefering openbox and mc, also sometimes using pcmanfm).
I'm surprised nobody has posted a solution.
Just, were I to be using thunar, I do know that the option I mention
works.
