Re: Still trying to reduce the size of /, now that I have the bit between my teeth....
Hi!
You can usually start on games, if you don't use them. I didn't follow your
earlier thread, so I hope I don't suggest anything, which already has been
said.
You can use:
dpkg -l | less
To see all installed packages. If you uninstall packages using either
aptitude remove or synaptic, it should tell you, which packages depend on a
package you want to remove. A good idea is to leave everything with "daemon"
alone. If you're not involved with printing and designing you could have a
look for text-packages and try to remove them. If there, they usually can take
up some space.
If you don't need a GUI, this can usually clean your /usr directory QUITE a
bit. OpenOffice.org can take up some space.
At the moment I don't have any more ideas. Just as a comparison, I have a
basic GUI-system installed and beyond that, just what is needed for the
commandline and compiling various pieces of software. My /usr folder has 5.1G,
my / is 8.5G, of which 2.3G is my /root folder. :-)
Warm regard, hope that helps
Julien
