Agreed.  And since the standard start-stop-daemon has that feature it
would be very simple to do.  It just needs to use the existing feature..

Agreed.  This has been reported as Bug#570852.

It is tagged as pending as of 13 May 2011 so perhaps this will get
fixed with a future upload of the package.
