Hi,

You're the one running as a user on a RedHat system, right?

I downloaded http://security.debian.org/debian-security/pool/updates/main/a/apt/apt_0.6.46.4-0.1+etch1.tar.gz
from the following webpage

http://packages.debian.org/etch/apt

I then run the following two commands. But I don't find the 'install'
option in the Makefile. Can somebody let me know what command I should
run to install apt?

configure --prefix=somedir
make

Just as SRPM packages are designed to be manipulated by rpm, deb packages are designed to be manipulated by apt* commands. In this case, I don't think that deb packages are designed to allow "non system" targets.
