Hmm.... I recently ran a (PXE) serial console isntallation on an Alix
board of mine, and had no problem whatsoever .

Just make sure to pass the extra parameter:

  console=ttyS0,9600n8

to the installer (well, I actually used there 115200 rather than 9600)
