there may again appear files in this directory. I would expect to see there files only in the case the "update" command is interrupted. But may be something is wrong with apt-get. Time to file a bug report?
I definitely did this sometimes. Not recently though. I will observe the behaviour of aptitude a bit before filing a bug report. Flo
