Of course!

Why didn't i think of that? I have elaborate backup-systems on all my
production systems... but my mothers stuff? well, i didn't think of
that! (She now has to get a bigger disk before i can set that up.)

that's probably too much. as she has gotten last christmas a digi-cam
from my brothers. and she can't throw those precious pictures away :)

but a local backup is definitly a must-have.

I think having a "backup-then-shutdown"-button on the desktop or a
''backupNow!''-button probably suffices. no need for cronjob making
the system unusable or needing 2 hours to boot.

yeah, rdiff-backup is what i normally use. it's hassle-free.
