I feel like I'm chasing a moving target.  Lets nail down the specs that you
want.  So far what I understand is:

file by file copy  to some media
no compression
no "archive"
readable with other OS

What else?  How often? How important? How much does it change? Why do you want
to do this?  (What am I missing?)

Mark - Sorry for the changing specs.
here are the full specs:

file by file copy  to some media
no compression
no "archive"
readable with other OS
if the directories specified are greater then the media max size (i.e. 4gig DVD-R)  the program or script will prompt you for the next media.

A nice to have, but not a must - if it can compress files, can it do it in zip files ?

that is all.
thanks in advance.
