How to use whizzytex in emacs?

Hi:

I saw that whizzytex works well with emacs having the preview features. So I installed the whizzytex package. I opened one tex document, and used "M-x whizzytex-mode" to open the preview, but nothing shown, only a message in the minibuffer:
"Mode switched off externally"

Do I need to configure it in ".emacs"? I followed the guides in the "INSTALL" file of the package, and added the following line into ".emacs":
(autoload 'whizzytex-mode
  "whizzytex"
  "WhizzyTeX, a minor-mode WYSIWYG environment for LaTeX" t)

Can any one give some information on this? I'm using emacs23 (compiled from cvs).
