I googled for something like "mouse cursor numpad X11", and saw that the "Slashdot X with no Mouse Cursor" link (http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/01/1945245) looked promising and scanned through the comments on that article, one of which (http://ask.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=55567&cid=5414364) had the link.
I had the advantage of knowing all this was possible (I even used to know all the keys by heart, but have since forgotten them, not needing them often), so it was just a matter of knowing approximately what to look for. You didn't even know it was possible, so since Google wasn't friendlier with its hits, it's not surprising you didn't quite know how to find the info. I strongly suspect I've documented these keystrokes before in this mailing list from 4 or 6 years ago, but I find it harder to search the Debian archives than to Google in most cases. (I just searched, and found where I first learned of it: http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2003/10/msg03836.html, and I'm fairly confident I've shared the info since then, although my search just now of the Debian archives failed to support my belief.)
