Interestingly, the Nazi and Soviet regimes opened mid-level negotiations
in 1943, but the territorial demands of the Nazi side (which by then
occupied huge swathes of Soviet territory) were unacceptable to the
Soviets.

mutual defence. But by late 1941 he saw himself as invincible.
