Glad it works for you as well.  I have no idea what the cause might be
and I unfortunately don't have time to look into it any further.
Perhaps you can log a bug report on the lpr package?

But then you would need to be able to provide more information about
our specific setups.  With this little information I don't see how the
(upstream) developpers would be able to know where to start looking.

I am however more than willing to provide more information if needed
so if you do create a bug report feel free to CC me.
