dpkg -S works for installed packages AFAIK. So this may not be the
better solution to find a package that you need.

I'd rather use something like :
$ apt-file search malloc. | grep man

By guessing this is in the "Library calls" section, this can be improved :
$ apt-file search man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-de-dev: usr/share/man/de/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-dev: usr/share/man/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-es: usr/share/man/es/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-fr: usr/share/man/fr/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-ja-dev: usr/share/man/ja/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-ko: usr/share/man/ko/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-nl: usr/share/man/nl/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-pl-dev: usr/share/man/pl/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-pt-dev: usr/share/man/pt/man3/malloc.3.gz
manpages-ru: usr/share/man/ru/man3/malloc.3.gz
