Maybe it is, but compiling in the alsa core, leaving all else modules, got at 
least the audio playback working. The alsa compiled was what came with kernel 
sources from Sid.

The "device does not exist or device busy" error, since 2.6.12, remains with 
snd-mpu401. In truth, I do not have an mpu401 but the Yamaha sw60xg card can 
be driven way, and up till 2.6.11 worked with no problems.
