ppp question

I am using wvdial as my normal user bob. It works but I get the following warnings:

--> PPP negotiation detected.
--> Starting pppd at Mon Apr  4 10:40:20 2005
--> Warning: Could not modify /etc/ppp/pap-secrets: Permission denied
--> --> PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) may be flaky.
--> Warning: Could not modify /etc/ppp/chap-secrets: Permission denied
--> --> CHAP (Challenge Handshake) may be flaky.
--> pid of pppd: 6975
--> Using interface ppp0

Is this important ? If so how to fix it ?

I see those files are rw only bu root. I guess that is a security measure. My machine is a "one human only" laptop.

bob@t40:~$ ls -l /etc/ppp
(snip)
-rw-------  1 root root  1673 2005-03-29 09:52 pap-secrets
-rw-------  1 root root  1646 2004-12-25 21:08 pap-secrets.bak
(snip)

Thanks,
Bob
