Short answer:
# apt-get install openoffice.org

I believe that "dpkg -l" lists only packages in the dpkg database, i.e.
packages that your system has already installed or considered
installing (I would appreciate corrections to this statement).  The
"apt-cache search" and "apt-cache show" commands can inform you about
packages that have never been on your system but are in the package
lists obtained from the sources in your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
