... which is a solution I'd rather not contemplate. True, you'll solve
your problem, but it IS a problem only if you see "security" as a hurdle
(which it's not, of course).
If you *really* want to remove that provision in spite of what I'd
explained, you should not log onto X as root, but rather as a normal
user and THEN, in a terminal: sudo gdmsetup (provided that the normal
user is in /etc/sudoers).
