Re: Computer not running at highest possible speed

Sounds like OpenGL or your X server isn't properly set up.

The only problem I'm having with the X server is this:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".

I'm not sure what to do about it, since it kind of conflicts with nVidia's driver settings.
if anybody has a cure, please let me know!

Yeah, you need to go get nVidia's proprietary kernel module and X
driver if you haven't yet. nVidia is being quite bogus about this
issue and refuses to cooperate with the OSS community by licensing
their software in a reasonable and fair manner, so don't expect the
driver situation to improve much until you get a non nVidia card.

I had the nVidia install binary create a module, which seems to be running fine. I wish it was in the kernel, but as you said, there's not much chance of that happening soon. Wesnoth now does run a lot smoother, and so do Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and Flightgear, and like i said in another reply my glxgears fps' doubled after changing XFree86's Nice value to 0, changing some hdparms and enabling MTRR in my kernel.

Thanks!
