Subsequent investigation revealed the problem I was having with vim vim was saying that $VIMRUNTIME pointed to '/usr/share/vim/vim63' but I had set' runtimepath=/usr/share/vim/vim62' in my .vimrc file. This was causing a confilct and vim was getting confused! Paul
