You have to load the proper kernel modules. The OSS module is called
i810_audio, the ALSA module is snd_intel8x0. So it seems that you are
already using the OSS modules.

I just tested the ALSA driver again after some time, and it works
greate now. I see the following in my syslog:

| kernel: intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 49477 usecs
| kernel: intel8x0: clocking to 48000

You could try to specify the clocking manually as a module option,
maybe that will correct your problem.
