I think mathtype can do this although I am not sure. It is much better
then equation editor although I still can't stand the thing ;-)

I find word to be rather inadequate for just about anything (I
sometimes use it to attach several scanned pages for a fax and to fix
my girlfriends formating but thats about it).

For math work I find the description inadequate a bit of an
understatement. I would go more with the feeling you get when someone
is sticking needles in you while someone else is frying you at the same
time over a not so small fire 8-P
