I use a lightly mofified version of Sven Guckes' configuration, the
only interesting bits I've got are a list of all windows with the
current hostaname and time along the bottom of the screen, and a few
lines in my .bashrc to remind me if I've left any detached screens
running (ok, this may interfere with scp should you use that).

in .screenrc, for window list on last-line.
hardstatus on
hardstatus alwayslastline
hardstatus string "%{.1099} %-w%{.bg}%n %t%{-}%+w %=%H %c:%s "

and in .bashrc
# check for detached screen processes
screen -ls|grep Detached
