Nero-burned UDF/ISO DVD doesn't mount correctly as UDF

I have some data DVDs burned with the latest Nero as "UDF/ISO" projects.
When I just mount them, they mount okay and you can list the root
directory, but when you try to stat a file it gives you "no such file or
directory". If I explicitly mount as -tiso9660, it works okay. (It
breaks if you use -tudf explicitly the same as if you give no argument.)

I'm unfamiliar with the UDF/ISO specifications; is Nero burning some
non-standard spec? Has anybody seen this and is manually specifying
-tiso9660 just "the right thing to expect to have to do"?
