No, cdrecord works fine with ide-cdrom. Check the list archives - this has
come up several times.
I ran into the problem that later 2.6 kernels have been causing hangs
on the bus and/or the machine when I try to scan or burn with cdrecord.
The solution is to disable DMA on your CD burner.
