I've run DRI on this machine before and turned it off so that I could

turn on DRI X goes into an endless loop and my machine will not respond
(CAPS LOCK sanity test fails). This is from the X log:

(EE) RADEON(0): RADEONCPGetBuffer: CP start -1020
(EE) RADEON(0): RADEONCPGetBuffer: CP GetBuffer -1020
(EE) RADEON(0): GetBuffer timed out, resetting engine...

(EE) RADEON(0): RADEONCPGetBuffer: CP start -1020
(EE) RADEON(0): RADEONCPGetBuffer: CP GetBuffer -1020

It goes through this loop until I power off the machine.

Install kernel-image-2.6.5-1-686 which is up to:

Filename: pool/main/k/kernel-image-2.6.5-i386/kernel-image-2.6.5-1-686_2.6.5-4_i386.deb

in Sid. More the versiou previous to 2.6.5-4_i386.deb had some Radeon microcode removed. If you are tracking Sid, then you should be able to update 2.6.5 to the latest kernel image and your DRI should then work.

I installed the kernel from source (kernel-source-2.6.5 version 4) and compiled a custom kernel. So I do believe I have the latest kernel.
