It is not included in Woody. If you use Gnome in Woody, try gmix
instead. It is in the gnome-media package.

Other reasons could be interrupt problems. Type
cat /proc/interrupts on both the Debian and the Knoppix systems. See if
maybe one of the systems uses another interrupt for your card, and if
maybe one of the systems uses APIC, while the other doesn't.
Also try the acpi=off and pci=aoacpi boot parameters.
