You probably want to start with the Installation Manual at:
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/installmanual

You're probably using an older kernel (2.2) that doesn't have support 
for your NIC; the 2.4 kernel might (I'm unfamiliar with that NIC, so I'm 
just guessing).

(BTW, cross-posting is generally frowned upon, and meaningful subject 
lines tend to get better results, make searching the archives easier, 
and don't get ignored/treated as spam by as many people.)
