Some rather old issue, see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=68853
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=206419
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=212759

Old indeed - the bugs don't have much information in them as to why they
haven't been solved (they don't look particularly complex).. is there an
issue I am missing?

Not that I know of, but I found this on debian-devel:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2003/debian-devel-200310/msg01393.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/debian-devel-200209/msg01532.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2001/debian-devel-200104/msg00075.html
et al.

Cheers,
Flo
