Well, here is what my existing /etc/apt/preferences file looks like:
Package: *
Pin: release a=testing
Pin-Priority: 900
Package: *
Pin: release a=stable
Pin-Priority: 500
Package: *
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 95
Should I drop the stable entry?
