I could be missing some vital command or three,
but from what I understand from reading the man's
:-
1. I download packages with
dselect/apt-get and they go into /var/apt/cache ( I think that is where,
regardless, the standard location)
2. I can move those packages into
a local mirror that I would be able to use as an apt source for future
installations of debian using ' apt-move update '
It seems to process fine, but
when I try to use it as a mirror, either by file:// or http:// (with apache
configured), It tells me the index files are missing, and the mirror is not
used.
Now this is a bit of a bother, as on dial-up - it's
taken me some time to download over 500Mb of .deb's
I have a server currently running RedHat, that I am
anxious to switch to debian, but cannot until I resolve this issue (which is
more than likely my lack of serious linux experience, thanks
Redhat).
Any advice would be hugely appreciated, as this
mirror will form the basis from which I will be installing debian on new
machines, or providing a network cable so people can do their own. I have
a huge market of people looking to get a computer but they aren't too sure about
the invasivness of Microsoft (not to mention the cost - XP Pro is $300 - they
could double their RAM at least for that for instance, but I digress . .
.)
Even something as simple as the right FAQ to read,
I've googled every combination of the words I can think of.
